As some of you may know, I recently found my old NES copy of the original Final Fantasy. It's been fun, but my recent party cut a bloody swath of destruction through evil with quite a bit of ease. Boredom has ensued. As such, both for your entertainment and because I'm apparently a masochist, I have decided to let you choose the next party I will be using! I will then occasionally update my progress here, just to show you how I'm stumbling along on the skin of my teeth because you're all assholes and gave me a shit party.
For those unfamiliar, classes are:
With that out of the way, the nature of the challenge:
Essentially I can pick any four of the above for my party. I can even double up on them, going as far as having four of the same guy. This is where the challenge comes in. You, my fellow board members, shall pick my party. All that's required is that you either post up a suggested party, or vote on one already suggested. Feel free to argue why yours is so great if you really want people to chose it. Mini flame war. In the event of a tie or that nobody votes, the choice comes down to random.org.
Oh, until I figure out a decent method to do so, screenshots will not be available. If you really want them I could try taking photos of my tv or something. Just saying.
Now have at it!
For those unfamiliar, classes are:
- Fighter: Pretty solid dude. Has no magic (until way later, but it's weak anyway) but he has the most HP and can use any weapon and armor. He's really only as good as his equipment so he gets a bit expensive to maintain, but he's a good option for a front-row meatshield.
- Black Mage: The Ferret favorite. Physically weak, but excels in using magicks for massive. Fucking. Damage. Another useful guy to have around.
- White Mage: As above, but on the healing side of things. To be honest this one is very, very indispensable. If it came down to it I would take a WM over a BM any day.
- Thief: I have mixed feelings about this one. The Thief is not much of a fighter, and he does not have any magic. What he does have, however, is absurd dodging skills, as well as a boost to the party's ability to run. That last one is more useful than you might think. He's also pretty cheap to equip, which can be good.
- Black Belt: I. Hate. Black Belts. Absolute wastes in the party, I say. But since I'm here, I might as well cover some pros. Well....he's cheap. Very, very cheap. Like, "don't have to buy him weapons" cheap. So that's a plus. I hear he does better damage at higher levels too. But his defense is shit and he has no magic to speak of. If anything he's just some dude to keep alive with your WM.
- Red Mage: This guy is interesting. He is a bit of a balance, having both offensive and defensive magic as well as access to weapons and armor normally outside of caster use. He is not as good at any one thing as the normal class would be though. He dominates in the beginning, but as time goes on you notice just how inferior he is. Not the worst choice. If anything he can cover for someone if needed.
